What advice would you give someone who says they “can't find the time” to workout?
There's always time. We all have 24 hours. Do it before you begin your day. You don’t have to go to the gym everyday. You can train at home, find an outdoor boot camp, go to a fitness park with the children. Just get moving! don't forget Saturdays and Sundays as options as well.
How does your diet compare on and off season?
I eat pretty much the same with a roti or two sprinkled in off-season (I love roti). I prepare 95% of my meals and choose oats, fruit, provision, vegetables, peas, beans, chicken, fish, beef, pork etc. Chocolate, cake and roti are my treats. Pre-contest I become more strict, I weigh and measure all portions and treats are planned according to how my body is changing.
For someone who may not have dreams of being on stage but would still like to maintain a healthy physique, how strict should their diet be?
Diet is 85% of a healthy lifestyle. It's not about being strict, it's about making better choices and controlling portion sizes.
In your experience working with women, do you think that weight training and training overall has an effect on self esteem?
It definitely does! Personally I work on changing not just how my ladies look, but how they view themselves. Plus it's empowering to go from barely being able to lift 8lbs to lifting 20-25lb weights.
What advice do you have when it comes to following your dreams and doing what you love?
Just do it! Start small but just start! There's no such thing as the perfect time. So just get started right where you are, with what you have.
